Special Summer Offerings
Why should kids have all the fun?
Our Adult Summer Camps are back and better than ever!
This year we’re offering camps just for the grown-ups featuring all five of our studio art forms. Spend a week deep-diving into pottery, or in one of our multi-studio crossover camps where you can learn a little bit about multiple art forms! All camps are five days (Monday-Friday) for three hours per day.
Keep scrolling for our Print-specific camps, but be sure to check out all of our Adult Summer Camps here!
Printing on Clay (Clay/Print Crossover Camp)
Have you ever wanted to make your own underglaze transfers? This is the camp for you!
In this 5-day camp, students will learn how to make screens for screen printing and how to use them. We will then take our screens to the Clay studio and print both directly onto clay and using transfers.
This camp will offer some instruction for hand-building, but the main focus will be learning how to print on clay. As such, we recommend that only folks with previous clay experience sign up. Print newbies are encouraged!
Monday-Friday 9:00am-12:00pm
Dates: June 22 - June 26
Instructor: Akane Kleinkopf (Print) & Grace Flaherty (Clay)
Location: Main (3750 Canfield St)

Exploring Through Spoons (All Studio Crossover Camp)
Big spoon or little spoon? You don't have to pick in our very first 5-studio crossover class: Exploring Through Spoons!
In this Adult Summer Camp, you'll get a lightning fast introduction to our Clay, Glass, Wood, Metal, and Print studios. Each week, the students will be in a different studio learning the material through the ancient practice of spoon (or spoon related object) making (seriously, spoons are, like, 3,000 years old)! The schedule will be as follows:
Day 1: Clay - Students will be in the clay studio making hand-built spoon crocks
Day 2: Glass - Students will be in the glass studio making fused spoon rest
Day 3: Wood - Students will be in wood studio learning how to carve a spoon
Day 4: Metal - Students will be in the metal studio learning how to forge a ladle
Day 5: Print - Students will be in the print studio learning linocut to make a one-of-a-kind spoon-related print culminating in a display of craftsmanship for the ages.
Monday-Friday 1:00-4:00pm
Dates: August 3 - August 7
Instructor: Akane Kleinkopf (Print only). This class will be co-taught by an expert in each studio
Location: Main (3750 Canfield St)
Cost: $310
Ages: 16+
Crossover Print Classes
Lino & Lumber (Print/Wood)
In this cross-studio class you will first have 4 weeks in the printmaking studio to learn the basics of carving into Lino to make a custom 9” x 12” print on paper. You will achieve techniques that can be applied beyond this class and create a Lino block that you can print again.
After completing your 9” × 12” print, you’ll build a custom hardwood frame in maple, cherry, or walnut to showcase it. Starting from rough lumber, you’ll mill stock to precise dimensions using the jointer, planer, table saw, and chop saw. You’ll cut accurate miters and assemble the frame with glued, splined joints in a contrasting wood species for added strength and a refined accent. Finally, we’ll apply an oil-based finish and install your print, so you leave with a professionally crafted frame ready to hang.
All supplies and materials will be provided, but if you have extra elements you'd like to add, students are encouraged to bring them in.
Wednesdays 5:30-8:30pm
Dates: June 24 - August 12
Instructor: Renate Mairie (Print) & Tim Gordon (Wood)
Location: Main (3750 Canfield St)
Cost: $355
Ages: 16+
Printmaking Classes
4-Week Sampler Classes
New to printmaking and don't know where to start? Look no further than our 4-week introductory printmaking sampler! These classes provide a great introduction to the art of printmaking. And the best part? They’re all Pay What You Can!
If you’re the adventurous sort who wants to try it all, we recommend our Studio Sampler. You’ll get a taste of relief (carving into a block), monotype (one-of-a-kind prints made by layering objects), intaglio (scratching an image into a hard surface), and screen printing (silk screen stencils).
Looking to dig deep on relief carving? Our Relief Sampler will get you in the groove with Speedycut, Linoleum, and Woodblock printing.
4-Week Level I Classes
Our 4-week Level I classes are all beginner-friendly, but suitable even for seasoned printmakers.
Copper etching is an intaglio (incising a plate) technique that typically requires harsh chemicals and acids. But at Groundworks, we're all about bucking tradition and trying new methods and are excited to offer an acid-free alternative.
8-Week Level I Classes
These 8-week Level I classes go beyond scratching the surface, and start to dig deeper.
Channel your inner Andy Warhol and come try Screen Printing, also known as silk screen printing. This class will provide an introduction from design conception to making a stencil, transferring it to the screen, and making your design come to life.
No going against the grain in Linocut Relief - because linoleum doesn’t have any! Whether you’re brand new to relief printing or you’re a seasoned pro (maybe you previously took our Relief Sampler?), you’ll enjoy the smooth satisfaction linocut has to offer.
Intaglio is a process in which ink is pushed into the recesses of a plate and wiped away from the surface before printing. This class will cover drypoint, collagraph, Tetrapak printmaking, and copper etching techniques and is perfect for folks who enjoy the finer details.
8-Week Level II Classes
Woodblock printing has a rich history, particularly in East Asian cultures, where it was used to create both text and images on the same block. Also known as woodcut, woodblock printing is a relief printmaking technique where areas of the wood block that are not meant to be printed are carved away, leaving the image areas raised.
This 8-week Level II class is suitable for folks who have experience with other forms of relief printing like linocut. As wood is a harder surface to carve on, please note that it can be more difficult to carve and requires a bit more dexterity.
Adaptive Printmaking Classes
Adaptive Print
This four week class is offered exclusively to folks living with acquired/traumatic brain injuries and to those living with developmental, physical or intellectual disabilities.
Our experienced instructors and supportive assistants will guide you through the exciting world of printmaking. You’ll learn how to create a simple monotype: a unique, one-of-a-kind print. We’ll provide a calm and encouraging environment, with an adaptable studio and easy-to-use tools. Our small class size (limited to 8 students) ensures personalized attention from the instructor and assistants. Caregivers are welcome to join us.
To register for any of these Adaptive Print Classes, please reach out to Sara Hailey, to make sure the class will fit your needs.
